The European Commission (EC) has sent out requests for information (RFIs) in its review of EssilorLuxottica’s acquisition of Grandvision, three third-party sources told this news service.
The EC has asked third parties for market-share data and their thoughts on the merger’s potential effects on discrete national markets, the sources said. The RFIs, which varying in the length and number of questions, were sent to optical-retail industry associations as well as to competitor, suppliers and buyers of goods, they said.
At least one batch of questionnaires sent to a buyer group was originally due back to the EC on 7 January, but this deadline was extended to 23 January, the first source said.
The questionnaires were tailored to the recipients, varying by country, according to the sources. In addition to market-share data, the EC asked recipients about their main suppliers, their supply strategy, the number of inhabitants in their market, sales figures and price levels, the first source said.
