T-Mobile could look to backyard for deal

18 May 2017 – T-Mobile US [NASDAQ:TMUS] has deal options beyond Sprint [NYSE:S] that may include a major tech firm like Amazon [NASDAQ:AMZN], two sources briefed on the matter said.

Such a transaction would need to either make Bellevue, Washington-based T-Mobile significantly stronger so it could successfully compete in the US wireless market or allow the company’s majority owner Deutsche Telekom [ETR:DTE] to monetize its 64% stake, these sources and a sector advisor said.

Dish Network [NASDAQ:DISH], an Englewood, Colorado-based satellite television provider with a large holding of unused wireless spectrum, could look to involve Seattle-based Amazon in a potential deal, one of the sources said.

Deutsche Telekom declined to comment. T-Mobile, Sprint, Amazon and Dish did not return requests for comment.
